Hello Webprints community and newcomers!

I received an email today from a prospective customer for our 3D printing studio/division, and it was in regards to shipping costs being too high between the United States and Europe.

Thanks for this, but shipping costs are a bit too high to get this done. I’m going to look for closer options.

As someone who's ordered packages from companies all over the world, I fully understood the pause and decision, and I fully support it as well.

At Webprints, one of our major goals is to help move humanity towards a mindset of localized production, fixing what you own/upcycling, and finding more ways to build a more sustainable world.

The many benefits of localized manufacturing, along with its natural alignment with the Right to Repair Movement and environmental sustainability are near and dear to our hearts. This is a golden opportunity for all 3D printer owners and hobbyists, especially those of you with multi-material capabilities or specific models like the Bambu Lab X1-Carbon, P1P, P1S, A1 Mini, or Prusa XL. Even if your printer is gathering dust, now is the time to join us in something special.

Why Localize Manufacturing?

Economic Benefits

A local manufacturing setup creates and retains jobs within the community, enriching the local economy. A stronger local economy leads to better quality of life and encourages further investment within the community.

Environmental Impact

Localized manufacturing cuts down on the carbon footprint associated with long-haul transportation. Fewer emissions and less energy consumption make this a greener alternative.

Innovation Boost

Local settings foster quick iterations and encourage innovation. Shorter supply chains mean faster communication, more immediate feedback, and swift improvements.

Customization

Localized manufacturing is agile, allowing for easier customization. A client needs a specialized component? No problem! It can be quickly designed, produced, and delivered.

Right to Repair Movement: A Shift in Mindset

The Right to Repair Movement promotes repair, improvement, and upcycling of products we already own. Here’s how localized manufacturing complements this philosophy:

  1. Facilitates Easier Repairs: Local parts availability can expedite repairs.
  2. Encourages Upcycling: Local creativity can transform or repurpose items.
  3. Promotes Community Engagement: Local manufacturing encourages sharing of repair skills.
  4. Drives Innovation Forward: Manufacturers can open up licensing to print components for their products, allowing makers to innovate and create new solutions to common product inefficiencies or defects.
  5. Reduces Waste: Leading contributors to waste are "broken" products which end up in landfills, often because small parts broke and stopped a product from working as expected.

Call for Recycling Companies

We urge recycling facilities to aid in the collection and recycling of additive manufacturing materials like PLA, PETG, and ABS.

  1. Reduce Waste: Help divert these materials from landfills.
  2. Promote Circular Economy: Introduce recovered materials back into production.
  3. Stimulate Innovation: Develop new recycling techniques.

Open Invitation for 3D Printer Owners and Hobbyists

Whether you’re an expert or a hobbyist, even if your 3D printer has been idle, Webprints welcomes you. We particularly invite those with Bambu Lab X1-Carbon, P1P, P1S, A1 Mini, or Prusa XL printers.

Special Invitation to 3D Printer Owners & 3D Modelers

This is not just another invitation; it's a call to action for all 3D Printer Owners out there. If you've been pondering how to make a lasting impact, Webprints offers you a platform to join a movement that is much larger than any single entity. By localizing manufacturing, we can collaboratively repair household items, reduce waste, and foster a sense of community.

Why Should 3D Print Studios & 3D Printer Owners Join?

  1. Expand Your Network: Connect with local manufacturers, designers, and community members interested in sustainable practices.
  2. Showcase Your Expertise: Offer workshops, consultations, or community events that allow you to share your specialized skills and contribute to the Right to Repair Movement.
  3. Cultivate Innovation: Use your facilities as a breeding ground for ideas that can solve real-world issues, from sustainable housing to accessible healthcare products.
  4. Strengthen Community Ties: Become a hub where people can not only print but also learn, share, and grow.
  5. Boost Business: More than just a profit motive, your active involvement will position you as a responsible and forward-thinking enterprise, attracting more customers who share your values.

Why Should 3D Modelers Jump In?

Calling all 3D Modelers: this is your moment to redefine the narrative and demonstrate that 3D modeling and 3D printing aren't confined to creating small toys or trinkets. Webprints is offering a platform where you can collaborate with 3D printer owners to address real-world challenges that affect us all. We can quite literally design and build a better world around us. Let's show the world the untapped potential that exists when 3D modelers and 3D printer owners unite to innovate.

  1. Drive Real-World Solutions: Work on projects that make a difference, be it in sustainability, medical equipment, or household repairs.
  2. Unleash Creativity: With a community of eager 3D printer owners, you're not just designing; you're bringing your models to life.
  3. Collaborative Innovation: Partner with 3D printer owners to optimize designs, test prototypes, and produce functional items efficiently.
  4. Expand Your Portfolio: Not only can you showcase your designs, but you can also display the tangible impacts those designs have on communities.
  5. Educate and Learn: Conduct and attend workshops, contribute to forums, and engage in meaningful dialogues that enhance skills and deepen understanding.

How Can 3D Modelers and 3D Printer Owners Collaborate?

  1. Problem-Solving: Identify a community issue and use your skills to develop a tangible solution.
  2. Prototyping and Iteration: Modelers design while printer owners produce prototypes, creating a quick feedback loop for improvement.
  3. Community Engagement: Organize or participate in local events that aim to solve neighborhood challenges through 3D printing and modeling.
  4. Resource Sharing: Share models, designs, and printing resources to encourage a more collaborative and less wasteful use of materials.
  5. Knowledge Exchange: Build a communal knowledge base, making both 3D modeling and printing more accessible to the public.
